The 69-year-old frontman for the Allman Brothers Band has dealt with a number of serious issues over the past few years, including Hepatitis, a respiratory issue from a liver transplant, and also the death of Butch Truck, who was the longtime drummer for the band.
It has been reported that Truck took his own life.
The rise to fame and glory
Gregg Allman and his brother Duane formed the Allman Brothers Band in 1969. Butch Truck, Dickey Betts, Brian Oakley, and Jai- Johnny Johnson made up the rest of the group. Tragedy struck early, when Duane Allman was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1971. Brian Oakley also died as a result of a motorcycle crash in 1973. It was not far from the location where Duane was killed.
The band went on to record quite a few successful records. Their biggest hit was entitled "Rambling Man." Allman's star really began to rise however, when he began dating and subsequently married the entertainer Cher.
They had one son together, Elijah Blue Allman, who is also a musician.
Allman's career has been filled with ups and downs. In 1975, the band broke up. The rambling man then began performing with his own group, The Greg Allman Band. He has also released music as a solo artist. Gregg Allman has enjoyed a career spanning more than 45 years. In addition to hit records, he was inducted into both the Rock and Roll, and Georgia Hall of Fame.
Gregg Allman gave an interview to Emily Zernler from the Hollywood Reporter in 2012. At that time, he said that he left behind a life of cigarettes, alcohol, cocaine, and heroin in the last rehab center he checked into. Lets hope that clean living will have an effect on his health, and that he will be able to play some shows soon.
