People never seem to tire of stories about Charles manson. The cult leader is the subject of many movies, books, interviews and television specials. Tonight, a new documentary about Manson will air on ABC.

Brand new footage

The documentary, “Truth and Lies: The Family Manson,” is promising viewers some never-before-seen footage of the notorious madman. The man with a swastika carved into his forehead, making him one of the most easily recognized psychos out there.

Some of the new footage for the ABC documentary comes from Manson’s last big network television interview that aired in 1994 with journalist Diane Sawyer. The special aired in March of 1994 but was recorded in late 1993.

In the summer of 1969, a number of brutal murders were committed throughout Hollywood, CA. The violent and horrific murders were of many well known and famous people, the most famous being actress and model Sharon Tate. Tate was only 26-years-old when she was stabbed to death. She was also eight months pregnant with her first child and married to director Roman Polanski at the time of her death.

These violent crimes were done by some of Manson's followers, the individuals who were a part of Manson's cult, also known as the "Manson Family."

Prison life

Many of the cult members are still in prison. A couple of them have recently been granted parole. The ringleader of it all, 82-year-old Manson, is still alive and is in prison in a California State Prison in Corcoran. He is serving nine concurrent life sentences and has been denied parole 12 times. Manson began serving his sentences in January of 1971. What fascinates many people about Manson is that he never committed any murders. Instead, he used his powers to persuade others to do it.

Earlier this year, Manson was rushed to Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield, CA and was said to be extremely ill.

Due to medical privacy laws, it was never disclosed as to what sent him to the hospital, but he was admitted and was there for almost a week. "Truth and Lies: The Family Manson" airs March 17 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
