Keshia Knight Pulliam gave birth to a baby girl on January 23, but she can't stop thinking about how she was treated by a Hospital worker who thought she was poor and didn't have insurance. The former star of "The Cosby Show" became offended because of the way she was treated by a certain little old lady who attended to her after she gave birth via C-section in an Atlanta hospital.
The 37-year-old actress told the story on her Kandidly Keshia podcast that after giving birth to Ella Grace, a hospital worker who appeared to be in her 70s thought she was being helpful when she gave her pamphlets about welfare programs.
Keshia was offended
For security reason, the celebrity's real name was not on the door or on any of her documents. Therefore, the lactation specialist had no idea who she was. The pamphlet had about 30 different resources available for women in need. The woman highly recommended the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) which provide basic nutritional needs for low-income pregnant women and new mothers and their children up to age 5. The programs are for people whose income is below the poverty level.
The actress also said the woman acted as if she did not want to touch her to help her learn to breastfeed. Because of this, the worker was replaced by another lactation specialist.
Irony of Keshia's story
The new mother might not have thought she needed the information about social service programs then, but recently it has been reported that she begged a judge to require her ex-husband and father of her child, Ed Hartswell, to pay child support. Apparently, Keshia needs financial support after all. According to reports, she asked the judge for emergency funds to feed and clothe her baby.
Hartwell and Pulliam got married in January 2016 and separated a few months later. At first, Hartwell denied that the baby was his. After a paternity test proved that he is the father, the 38-year-old former NFL star has begun to accept his responsibility for his daughter.
