"house of cards" Season 5 announced its highly anticipated release date with a dark themed promo. While there was some cancellation rumors, fans can rest assured that the Netflix original is coming with a fifth season of the political drama. However, "House of Cards" has lost its creator and showrunner Beau Willimon, and early last year, Netflix announced that Melissa James Gibson and Frank Pugliese, who joined the series during its third season, would work as co-showrunners in Season 5.
Fifth season release date
The fifth season of "House of Cards" will premiere on May 30th, 2017.
Previous seasons were released in February with the exception of the fourth season which came early in March. The delay in releasing the fifth season could be down to Netflix expanding their lineup of original content. In the short promo for the release, the series' Twitter account added a comment: "We bring the terror." This is likely a reference to the fourth season finale where President Frank Underwood declared war with ICO in a move that may get him reelected and distract the American public from his latest scandal.

Kevin Spacey returns as Frank Underwood, a ruthless and experienced politician who, over the show's four seasons, has shown that he will do anything to maintain power.
Claire, played by Robin Wright, is at odds with her husband but equally ambitious. Claire Underwood is one step away from claiming the presidency for herself as vice president. The show also stars Michael Kelly, Neve Campbell, Derek Cecil, Paul Sparks, and Joel Kinnaman, who plays Will Conway. Netflix added Patricia Clarkson and Campbell Scott for its fifth season, and Mahershala Ali will not be returning.
Things to expect
Netflix is giving very little away for the plot of the upcoming season. However, Michael Kelly, who plays the troubled Doug Stamper, spoke with Deadline and teased the upcoming season ahead of its release date: “You lose characters that you love. We almost lost Frank, and I always have faith in the writers that no matter what road we go down, we’re going to come back to what the show is.” Fans can expect Frank and Claire to continue their battle for power while running the country.
