The artist's husband died of throat cancer
Rene Angelil, who was 26 years older than Celine Dion, died at 73 years old because of a throat cancer at their residence in Las Vegas. Because she wanted to respect the wish of Rene, who was also her manager, the artist -- who has more than 200 million albums sold worldwide -- returned to the stage in Las Vegas after only 6 weeks since her husband's death.
René Angélil was born in January 1942 in Montreal in a Libano-Syrian family.
He sung in the group Les Baronets in the first half of the 1960s but he did not reach the success he wanted on the stage, so he decided to become an artistic impresario. He discovered Céline Dion almost by accident. Céline was 12 years old when she was brought to the audition by her mother. Later, Angélil said a miracle happened at that audition because he had never heard such a voice before. He considered Céline's voice to be the most beautiful voice in the world.
