Digital Vein is Cook's fourth career studio album, which came out on September 18, 2015, via his own independent record label, Analog Heart Music.

Ten out of the 12 songs on that project were co-written by Cook. "Heartbeat" is its opening track, which Cook co-penned with such songwriters as Andy Waldeck and Chris Reardon. The album peaked at No. 35 on the Billboard 200 all-genre charts, and it reached the Top 10 on the Billboard Independent Albums charts.

David Cook served as a mentor for 'Idol' this season

This is the final season of American Idol, and Cook was afforded the opportunity to return and mentor several contestants, including C.J. Johnson and Olivia Rox. Johnson collaborated with Cook on a duet of Collective Soul's signature song "The World I Know," while Rox sang a duet with Cook on his own hit single "Light On."

A Houston, Texas, native, Cook will be returning in two weeks for the season finale episode of Idol, along with many other alums and winners from the history of the show, including Grammy winners Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, who won the first and fourth seasons of the competition, respectively.
