Depending on who you ask, the United States is in turmoil. There have been a plethora of mixed feelings on both sides of the aisle, since Donald J. Trump, was declared the 45th president of the United States. Since the President took office, the Republican establishment has struggled to cling to the good old family they’ve been known to represent. Their Democratic counterparts have also struggled. Democrats find themselves trying to protect the ideals and freedoms on which the U.S. was founded.

The struggles come amidst rumors of the POTUS’ inappropriateness and rough rhetoric; not to mention the revolving door of White House personnel changes and the ongoing Russia probe that continues to loom over the White House.

This has left both political parties being challenged with having to decide if they should lift their voices in agreement or opposition to bold policy decisions. But it would seem, it is the President’s worldviews and blunt expression of these views that have ripped through the heart of liberty, and the dignity of the office of president.

Regardless of Americans’ partisanship allegiance, one thing is for certain

Regardless of Americans’ partisanship allegiance, one thing is for certain, there has been a shakeup in the way things have been done in Washington, D.C. and a nation known for its democratic governance. To be clear, the Republican POTUS, Donald J. Trump, has garnered steady approval, support, and love from his small political base.

However, despite a strong U.S. economy, an overwhelming majority of Americans still disapprove of the job Trump has done in his first year of his presidency.

Americans are hungry for leadership

The effects of this new way of leadership, inclusive of presidential tweets, have vibrated their way to tinsel town. This has left American citizens thirsting for unity and hope which appears to have been tossed aside.

That is, until icon and megastar Oprah Winfrey, the healer of wounds and inspirer of nations, took to the stage at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards.

Her speech was delivered in true “O” style. Her words fashioned a salve from the electrically charged room. Winfrey spoke of a ‘new day being on the horizon’ for women and people in general.

Celebrities like Common, Chicago native, actor, and music mogul, could be seen clasping his hands as if to capture and gobble the nourishing reassurance. Her speech carried a sense of hope and filled a void created somewhere in between the 2016 presidential election and present day. She may not have known that the enchantment of her empowering words would be seen as presidential in the minds of many Americans.

Local and world news media outlets would find themselves kicking around the idea of what it would be like for Oprah to run for president in the 2020 election. Thoughts of Oprah Winfrey leading and representing the U.S. to the world swirled around newsrooms and water coolers the next day.

CNN toyed with the idea by effectuating a pretend poll by attempting to gauge her chances against the sitting president. She was favored to win if she does decide to run. However, according to Oprah, that would not be the case. In recent interviews, Oprah shared she had previously considered the office but after further considerations, she relented by stating that it was ‘not something in her DNA’.

Many were saddened by the news that she wouldn’t consider the opportunity, while others were relieved, citing that America did not need another president without prior political experience. It would seem that Americans are hungry for moral leadership that models respect for all people. This is something Oprah naturally does. So, regardless of where Madame Oprah’s road leads, Americans continue to hope and strive to preserve the principles of what had already made America great--before Trump took office.
