Fans will still need to wait a few months before the release of "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" but people are already talking about the third film in the new trilogy. It has only been weeks since J.J. Abrams was confirmed as the new director of "Episode 9" yet the filmmaker is eager to begin work on the sequel as soon as possible.

So what exactly is the "Force Awakens" director planning to do with the 2019 movie? Writer Chris Terrio has revealed that "Star Wars 9" will be the true connection that will bring together all of the Skywalker trilogies.

'Episode 9' set as the ultimate 'Star Wars' movie

A new Reddit post shares some details from a conversation a fan had with Abrams and Terrio. According to the Redditor, the "Episode 9" director admitted that he has been given "free reign" on the sequel. Terrio added that the film actually "unites all three trilogies and brings everything together." The fan later clarified that the screenwriter had indicated there would "PT (prequel trilogy) elements in [Episode] 9" and didn't necessarily state that "planets or characters" will make an appearance.

The news certainly has fans wondering how the still-untitled sequel will connect the current trilogy with the prequels. There are speculations that the future "Star Wars" flick will reveal that a certain character might be related to the main villain in "Revenge of the Sith."

Is Rey a descendant of Darth Sidious?

A new theory suggests that Luke Skywalker's new apprentice might actually be related to Emperor Palpatine.

It has been pointed out that Rey's fighting stance resembles Darth Sidious' and it is possible that Luke senses the darkness within her.

Rey is not the only one who could be connected to a character from the past. It was previously implied that Finn might share the same last name as Mace Windu. The Stormtrooper formerly known as FN-2187 could end up following his ancestor's footsteps and become a Jedi in "Episode 9."

It would be interesting to see which characters are actually related to the ones who appeared in the "Star Wars" prequels.

But is there a possibility that Kylo Ren will finally communicate with his grandfather?

Will Kylo Ren meet Anakin Skywalker's Force ghost?

Hayden Christensen certainly had people talking when he teased being on the set of "Star Wars 8." So is it possible that the actor would make an appearance as the young Darth Vader in "Episode 9?" Fans will need to wait until "The Last Jedi" premieres on December 15.

The still-untitled ninth film is scheduled for release in 2019.
