This is the remarkable story of a stranger who saved the life of a man known to him as Chris. This Good Samaritan was Iain Lee who happens to be a renowned talk radio presenter. While hosting a late night program earlier this week, he received a call from one of his listeners whose name was Chris. He said he was suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder PTSD for a long time and was dying on a street. He went on to add that he wanted to end his life and from the way he was talking, Iain Lee realized that he needed immediate help.

New Zealand Herald reports the Good Samaritan was a popular host and was determined to save the man.

The only way to do that was to keep him talking while making efforts to trace him because he had not disclosed his whereabouts. He was just a name and when Iain Lee explained the situation to his producer, he rose to the occasion and their combined efforts saved Chris.

It needed a lot of patience

Iain Lee had appeared on the UK version of “I'm a Celebrity” in 2017. It is not often that a radio host has someone like Chris on the line and once Lee heard his woes, he knew he had to talk him out of his mental setup. It needed an approach that would help Chris to look ahead and not succumb to despair. With that in mind, Lee kept up the conversation for nearly half an hour and went to the extent of addressing him as a brother.

He probed him for details like which street he was on, what he was wearing, what he looked like, etcetera. At times, there would be a long pause and Lee’s mind would think of the worst. Ultimately, an ambulance and police reached the spot, rescued him, and shifted him to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Social media described the radio host as a hero for saving the life of a dying man. Lee, in turn, thanked his supporters for their kind words.

A Good Samaritan saves a man

Daily Mail UK also confirms the story of Iain Lee, a radio presenter, who saved the life of Chris. The stranger called him while he was on air to say that he had taken an overdose and was dying.

The only location he disclosed was Plymouth, Devon. The Good Samaritan in Lee jumped into action and managed to save him.

This incident reminds me of the 1965 movie “The Slender Thread” starring Anne Bancroft and Sidney Poitier. In it, Poitier portrays Alan, a college student who is volunteering at a crisis call center in Seattle. He gets a call from a woman named Inga (Bancroft) who says she had taken a lethal dose of pills and wants to talk to someone before dying. Alan has to keep her talking until help reaches her.
