In recent months, leaks have come out of the White House at an increased rate. With the latest leak revealing insulting comments made by a staffer about Sen. John McCain, Donald Trump decided to lash out on Twitter.

Trump on leaks

During his campaign for president, Donald Trump vowed to hire only the "best people" if he was elected to office.

Despite this, the Trump administration has been a revolving door, with low-level staffers and top cabinet members being fired or having resigned. Behind the scenes information about the turmoil in the White House has been ongoing for the last year and a half, with the latest example being in the form of staffer Kelly Sadler who came under fire last week after a leaked report found that she mocked John McCain's battle with brain cancer.

While not commenting on Kelly Sadler's remark, Donald Trump did address the issue of the leaks in his administration during a tweet on May 14. "The so-called leaks coming out of the White House are a massive over exaggeration put out by the Fake News Media in order to make us look as bad as possible," Trump claimed, in yet another shot at the mainstream media.

"With that being said, leakers are traitors and cowards, and we will find out who they are!" the president concluded. Within minutes, critics of the administration fired back and didn't hold back their thoughts.

Trump backlash

After Donald Trump's latest meltdown on Twitter, those who oppose the commander in chief wasted no time chiming in.

"Look in the mirror. You are the problem Sir. You are the fake news," one tweet read.

"Surprised you're able to tweet with all that blood on your hands," a Twitter user wrote.

"LOL! You're a joke, dude. You’ll do nothing about any of it," another tweet added. "Don't be such an a** clown and maybe all your employees wouldn't loathe you," a tweet stated. "You don’t need leaks to make you look bad President Bonespur," a post noted.

"There is no need to make you look as bad as possible.

You're doing that ALL by yourself. Your wife is in the hospital and you're tweeting. Not a good look," a social media user wrote. "Yep Trumpster - find them so the ignorant remarks made by your small minded staff will not be leaked......the bullying continues," a follow-up tweet read. The negative reaction continued to pour in as the rift between Donald Trump and the majority of the American people showed no signs of coming to an end at any point in the near future.
