Kellyanne Conway has come under fire after the Office of Special Counsel (OSC) concluded that she violated the federal Hatch Act. In response, critics of the administration wasted no time firing back.
Conway's violation
Ever since Donald Trump was sworn into office in January 2017, several members of his administration have been accused of violating multiple laws regarding a wide range of topics.
For Presidential Counsel Kellyanne Conway, her reckless and controversial remarks have often resulted in mockery, but it appears she is now in legal trouble. According to The Hill on March 6, Conway was found to have been in violation of the Hatch Act which prohibits federal employees from using their offical government positions to promote their partisan political views.
The allegations stem from two separate appearances on cable news where Kellyanne Conway illegally made partisan remarks about the Alabama special election between Democrat Doug Jones and Republican Roy Moore. Conway's comments came during an interview on "Fox & Friends" on Fox News, as well as an interview on CNN's "New Day."
The OSC informed the White House of the aforementioned violations against Conway on Tuesday morning, stating, "Ms.
Conway’s statements during the Fox & Friends and New Day interviews impermissibly mixed official government business with political views." The punishment of violating the Hatch Act is usually handled by the president, which could range from a civil penalty to suspension or termination with a ban on future federal employment for as long as five years. As of press time, neither the administration nor Conway herself have made a public response.
Twitter reaction
Following the news that Kellyanne Conway violated the Hatch Act, the presidential counsel quickly went viral for all the wrong reasons. "Lock HER up. Time to mint Trump Prison and start shoving all these treasonous lowlifes out of our White House," one tweet read.
"I really can't wait for the alt-fact spin on this. It's going to be priceless," a Twitter user wrote. "At some point, it will be easier to identify those who HAVEN'T broken the law in some capacity," yet another tweet added. "Yeah...if they’re actually expecting Trump to take disciplinary action, they’re high," an additional tweet noted.
"Pretty big news about the Trump swamp. Surely trump will fire her now and Fox News will cover this correctly for the legal violation it is. Right," a social media user tweeted. "Another day, another Donald Trump lawbreaker. Now Kellyanne Conway has been busted for violating the Hatch Act! This is the most lawless POTUS and administration in history! We need impeachment fast!!" yet another tweet stated.
