With a constant stream of rumors hovering over the head of her marriage, First Lady Melania Trump broke from tradition and arrived at the State of the Union without Donald Trump. Once the news broke, the story went viral on social media.
Melania ditches Donald
In recent weeks, one of the biggest stories has revolved around the reported infidelity of Donald Trump dating back over a decade.
The Wall Street Journal were the first to report that Trump reportedly paid hush money to adult film star Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about an alleged affair the two had back in 2006 when Melania Trump was pregnant with her son Barron. Since then, Melania has backed out of accompanying the president to a foreign trip to Davos, Switzerland, with both failing to publicly acknowledge their 13th wedding anniversary. With the scandals only expanding by the day, the Washington Examiner reported on January 30 that the first lady decided to arrive at her husband's State of the Union address by herself.
According to Melania Trump's spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham, the first lady decided to break from the longstanding tradition of arriving with the president and instead drove to the event with her guests. "In addition to holding a White House reception and photo opportunity for them, along with their friends and family, she is accompanying them to the Capitol," Grisham said.
Twitter goes viral
Once the news broke, Twitter users wasted no time firing back. "Wouldn’t it be great if Melania Trump showed up at the #StateOfTheUnion holding hands with Robert Mueller?" one Twitter user wrote.
"If Melania doesn’t want to be in the car with Trump for a 5-minute drive, why do the rest of us have to be subjected to him for an hour-long speech?" Keith Boykin wrote.
"Dear Melania Trump, The Secret Service can get you away from that monster. You will be protected, and you will always be rich. Get out while you can!" a follow-up tweet added.
"And because Trump banged a p*rn star right after Melania Trump gave birth to their son then paid $130K hush money ONLY to keep his voters from finding out – and NOT because he gave a rat's a** whether she knew or not. Amirite Sarah? Yeah. I'm right," yet another tweet stated. "One day Melania Trump will write a book. I think it will be popular," director Judd Apatow went on to post. The mockery continued on social media as questions remain about the relationship status of Donald Trump and Melania Trump.
