Exactly one year after Donald Trump's election win over Hillary Clinton, Republicans and right-wing news outlets used the anniversary to deflect from their devastating election defeat from the previous night. While Fox News spent time covering the anniversary, Kellyanne Conway joined the network to give her thoughts, but was met with opposition and fact-checking on social media.
Kellyanne on Trump
The 2016 presidential election will go down as one of the most shocking and controversial in American history. In a race that seemed destined to be won by Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump was able to find a way to pull the rug out of the Democrat's celebration and walk out the winner. To Republicans and the conservative media, Trump's win was a clear reflection of the left jumping the shark and not giving the country what they had been asking for in recent years. For Democrats and liberals, the former host of "The Apprentice" tapped into anger and alleged racism, while reportedly using outside forces in Russia to tip the election in his favor.
Fast forward to present day and the Republicans were unable to repeat success during the 2017 election cycle, which was highlighted by Democrats winning races for governor in New Jersey and Virginia. Despite this, and with an investigation into Russian currently taking place, those who support the billionaire real estate mogul ignored the results of the election this past Tuesday to gloat about last year's victory. As seen during a November 8 interview on Fox News, Kellyanne Conway was there to speak about the president.
Joining host Laura Ingraham for the Wednesday night edition of "The Ingraham Angle" on Fox News, Presidential Counsel Kellyanne Conway elaborated on Donald Trump and his election win in 2016.
"He won because he was able to make people feel that someone was giving voice and visibility to their every day concerns," Conway said.
" I just want history to show that it was Donald Trump that connected with people," Kellyanne Conway went on to say. Conway went on to praise Trump's first year in office, pointing out that he has been called the "most pro-life" president in history. Conway then hit back at critics, while saying of the president, "The only thing he's obsessed with succeeding for the nation and I see that first hand every single day."
Twitter fact-checks
In response to Kellyanne Conway's remarks about Donald Trump's election win and the year that has followed, those who oppose the president wasted no time firing back and fact-checking the former campaign manager in the process.
"You forgot that he's obsessed with golf. And his Electoral College win. And himself," one tweet read.
"Other than the abortions he allegedly paid for, right? I mean those weren't very pro-life," another tweet added in reference to Donald Trump's questionable history with women. "History will only remember the Bowling Green Massacre and Microwaves that take pictures," a Twitter user wrote in mockery of Kellyanne Conway's previous controversial comments.
"She has lied so much she wouldn't know the truth even if it bit her on the a$$!" another post stated. "History will show we had a criminal in office. A grifter who lies even when it's not necessary and someone who surrounds himself with yesmen who only tell him good news.
Zero ability with zero employees worth anything. That would be you!" an additional tweet noted. The negative reaction didn't stop there, as more comments and tweets highlighted the growing opposition against Donald Trump and the current administration.
