Following the Islamic terrorist attack in New York City on Tuesday, Donald Trump has not held back his thoughts. In his latest remarks on social media, the president called for the attacker to receive the death penalty.

Trump on NYC attack

In recent years, Islamic terrorist attacks have increased in the West as the rise of terror groups like the Islamic State (ISIS) have grown in numbers.

While the attacks have been common place for some time in the Middle East, it's the influence and spread of the ideology into the United States and various countries in Europe that have caused concern. The most recent example took place on Halloween afternoon in New York City earlier this week when Sayfullo Saipov, originally from Uzbekistan, drove his rented truck through a crowd of innocent people before exiting the vehicle with cries of "Allahu Akbar." Saipov was shot by police before being put under arrest and brought into custody. Currently in a nearby hospital, Saipov has reportedly been bragging about his act of jihad, with additional reports noting that he planned other attacks, with one targeting the Brooklyn Bridge.

In addition, Saipov also requested that he be allowed to hang the ISIS flag in his room, which resulted in Donald Trump commenting on the news during a November 2 rant on Twitter.

Taking to Twitter as midnight approached on Wednesday night, Donald Trump lashed out at the latest reports in regards to the terrorist attack in New York City. "NYC terrorist was happy as he asked to hang ISIS flag in his hospital room," Trump tweeted, before adding, "He killed 8 people, badly injured 12."

Not stopping there, Donald Trump turned on his caps lock button and called for the suspect to receive the death penalty. "SHOULD GET DEATH PENALTY!" he tweeted. As expected, critics of the president gave their thoughts.

Twitter reacts

In response to Donald Trump's tweet about what should happen to the Sayfullo Saipov, those who oppose the commander in chief wasted no time giving their opinion. "Why no rampage from the dude that killed so many in Vegas? Oh, this guy was not white," one tweet pointed out.

"Donnie? There’s a justice system that reports to you. Handle this like a President, not some drunk uncle yelling at his TV," another tweet added. "You do realize you're potentially tainting jury pool & could impact alleged perpetrator's ability to secure fair trial? SMH," Mark Zaid wrote.

"TRY to be presidential. Maybe feign intelligence? You can't. You're a deluded, uniformed chauvinist. And a racist bigot.

I'm out of space..." an additional tweet stated. "Remember Trump refusing to condemn N*zi marchers for days, 'I like to have all the facts.' Guess not. Quick not only to name ISIS plot," a follow-up post noted. As critics of Donald Trump fired back, the future of the terrorist in police custody remains unknown.
