North Korea has stated that it will accelerate its development of Nuclear Weapons because of the sanctions imposed by the United Nations (UN). The foreign ministry of the Communist country believes that these sanctions are inhumane and aggressive. The US and South Korea have begun military exercises near the border, so, the North Korean government stated that this behavior by America and its allies will accelerate the development of its nuclear program. The Pyongyang regime fired a missile over Japan a few days ago, which was seen as an aggression by the UN Security Council.
The goal of the UN sanctions is depriving Pyongyang of the economic resources to keep developing nuclear weapons and limit its foreign trade.
What is the range of the North Korean missiles?
According to a report by the BBC, North Korea already has some tested/operational missiles like the Hwasong 5/6 and the KN-11, which have a range of 1,000 km. The Pyongyang regime also has the Nodong missile with a range of 1,300 km and it's developed the Musudan with a range of 3,500 km. The Communist country is also developing the KN-08 with a reach ranging from 10,000 km to 11,500 km.
Will the sanctions be effective?
There are doubts regarding the effectiveness of the sanctions because North Korea has still been able to trade internationally, and China has been a strong ally.
The trade between both countries is one of the things that helped the country of Kim Jong-un grow almost 4 percent last year. Donald Trump will speak about the North Korean nuclear program at the UN General Assembly. Trump will also talk with the leaders of South Korea and Japan.
China is a key player
The US President has talked with the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, on the North Korean crisis.
According to a report by the BBC, the US government has told China to put more pressure on Pyongyang to stop its nuclear program. Russia and China agreed with the UN sanctions just after they were softened, and want more dialogue to find a solution.
US-South Korea military maneuvers
The U.S. and South Korea both made aerial maneuvers on Monday, near the border of North Korea, according to the South Korean Defense Ministry.
The purpose of these military maneuvers is to show that both countries are able to stop a Kim Jong-un attack. The nuclear ambitions of Pyongyang must be stopped before it's too late, economic sanctions are the best way to deprive Pyongyang of the economic resources to develop nuclear weapons.
