First Lady Melania Trump met with British royal Prince Harry on Saturday during her first solo international trip to Toronto, Canada for the Invictus Games, The Washington Post reported. She was wearing a luxurious Christian Dior suit with checkered prints.

Trump led the United States delegation at this sporting event that was organized by Prince Harry himself. Based on the Paralympic Games, the Invictus Games are exclusively held for disabled, wounded soldiers and army veterans.

The first lady also attended the sporting event’s opening ceremony before she flew back to the White House.

She arrived through a Boeing C-32 aircraft and went in a motorcade through Toronto before meeting with Prince Harry.

First solo foreign trip

The attended the Invictus Games after gracing the United Nations luncheon meeting with the General Assembly held a few days ago. During her trip to Canada, she also met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the Washington Post further noted.

First Lady Melania Trump said during the event, “On behalf of my husband and our entire country, I want to thank you and your families for all you have sacrificed to keep us safe. I also want to wish you good luck, but I know you won’t need it in these games.”

She added that the Invictus Games have provided a platform for wounded servicemen and women across the globe to headline their own sporting event.

She also said that this is “something that should be lauded and supported worldwide.”

Prince Harry’s initiative

The Invictus Games are part of Prince Harry’s initiative and this year marks the third edition of this sporting event, Gulf Times reported. The prince graced the first day of the games dressed in a blue coat and beige-colored trousers.

He addressed the attendees saying that these kinds of sporting events will also inspire people to follow values of “resilience, optimism, and service” as seen from these wounded soldiers. His girlfriend, Meghan Markle was also present to support him.

This year’s Games are gathering more than 500 soldiers and servicemen from various countries in the world.

The second edition of the event in 2016 was held in Orlando, Florida. It was first held in September 2014 in London.

According to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the Games are “a unique and powerful way to honor those who have sacrificed so much on behalf of the country.” The event will run until September 30.
