With Donald Trump and the Republican Party failing once again to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), First Lady Melania Trump decided to touch on the issue of health care in relation to children. After sending out a tweet on the matter, critics of the administration were quick to give their thoughts.

Melania on health care

When Donald Trump kicked off his campaign for president back in June 2015, many of his talking points and rhetoric stood out from the other candidates in the Republican primary. However, Trump's position on health care was similar to the GOP party line, as he vowed to repeal and replace Obamacare as soon as he got into office if he came out the winner.

Despite this, Trump's first nine months in the White House has not been as successful as he had hoped. On multiple occasions, the president has been unable to get enough Republicans on the same page to take advantage of their majority in Congress to put a new form of health care into law. Earlier this week, a bill sponsored by Senators Bill Cassidy and Lindsey Graham failed to get enough support, much in part due to fellow Republicans John McCain, Rand Paul, and Susan Collins all planning to vote "No." As seen on her Twitter account on September 27, Melania Trump brought up the issue of health care are it pertains to children.

Taking to her Twitter account on Wednesday night, Melania Trump praised the Nicklaus Children's Health Care Foundation for making strides in the area of pediatric health care.

"Today we celebrated advances in pediatric health care! Thank you Barbara & @NCHCF for all you do on behalf of children," Melania posted. Within minutes of her seemingly innocent tweet, those who oppose the president wasted no time firing back.

Twitter reacts

In response to Melania Trump's tweet, backlash followed from opponents of Donald Trump and his political agenda.

"I bet the children of Puerto Rico wouldn't mind some of that care right about now, or their families either. Or food. Or water," one tweet read.

"What's so great about her?

She's married to a pig plus the whole world has seen her naked. I would like to know what she's accomplished," another Twitter user adder. "Oh good. Advances in Pediatrics while your hubby wants to take Medicaid away from millions of kids. Awesome," an additional post stated with sarcasm.

"And those advances won't help anyone if your husband continues to try and take away healthcare," yet another tweet noted.

"Do you know who needs pediatric care right now? The children of Puerto Rico! Stop with the ceremonies & get on it!" a post stated. The negative reaction continued as it was clear the issue of health care was still on the minds of many Americans, especially those who are afraid of how their insurance will be impacted by Donald Trump and his plans moving forward.
