When it became clear that Donald Trump would become the new President of the United States, it was only a matter of time before First Lady Melania Trump highlighted a cause that she would tackle during her time in the White House. While Melania claims that she has taken on ending cyberbullying, Hillary Clinton isn't impressed with the effort she has put in.
Hillary on Melania
After Donald Trump first announced he was running for president back in the summer of 2015, it didn't too long before it became apparent that he wouldn't see eye to eye with the majority of the mainstream media. From his controversial remarks and Twitter tirades, to his questionable policy proposals, the former host of "The Apprentice" found just enough support to become the GOP nominee and later pull off the upset against Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. Despite this, those who oppose Trump have not held back their thoughts, with those on the left of the political spectrum often finding ways to protest against the administration.
One area that has caused many to speak out has been in the form of Trump's use of Twitter, with critics accusing the president of cyberbullying his critics. The irony of Trump's actions on social media come when lined up with Melania Trump's number one focus in the White House; ending cyberbullying. After nine months, Melania has done little to advance her initiative, which Clinton was quick to comment on during an interview with Mic on September 19.
While speaking to the internet magazine Mic earlier this week, Hillary Clinton was questioned about her thoughts on Melania Trump's attempt to end cyberbullying. When asked if she believed Melania had been doing enough to curb bullying on the internet, the former Secretary of State replied, "No, no and, look, I don’t think anybody is doing enough on cyberbullying."
"If she were serious and able to follow through on it, I bet there would be so many people who would be willing to try and help her out on that," Hillary Clinton said of Melania Trump's lack of effort on the issue.
Not stopping there, Clinton expressed a need to move faster when it comes to stopping cyberbullying, warning that it "has a particularly damaging effect on young people."
Hypocrisy?
The most common reaction to Melania Trump speaking out against cyberbullying was shock. Due to Donald Trump's actions on Twitter, including his controversial and often offensive behavior in attacking his critics, many have pointed to the alleged hypocrisy of the first lady whose husband is known to some as the most famous cyberbully in the world.
