First Lady Melania Trump took her first solo foreign trip on Saturday. She represented the United States at the 2017 Invictus Games in Toronto, Canada that was hosted by Prince Harry was founded the event in 2014. The Invictus Games are for military members who were wounded or became sick as a consequence of their service.

Melania Trump's trip

Melania Trump's trip was a busy one from the time she stepped off the airplane until she returned on the same day. She was driven by a motorcade to a local hotel in Toronto where she met with the founder and host of the Invictus Games before the opening ceremony.

It was the first time she had met Prince Harry who is fifth in line to the throne in England. They chatted for several minutes about the history of the Invictus Games and other things. Before their conversation ended, Trump invited Prince Harry to visit the White House whenever he is in the United States.

Later in the day, Trump met with the team from the United States and posed for a team photo and gave brief remarks where she encouraged the competitors to use their fighting spirit to win. After her comments, she stayed for a short time to shake hands with those who would participate in their sport of choice that they had trained so hard for. The sports range from wheelchair basketball, swimming, and cycling to golf for the first time.

During her short visit, Trump also met Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, his wife, and two of their children. She sat with them, Prince Harry and the governor of Canada at the opening ceremony on Saturday evening at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. She said in a statement after her trip that she was honored to represent the United States at this year's Invictus Games.

Other US delegates

The United States delegation also included other delegates, but it was Melania Trump who was the one who represented the country in a big way. It was the most important thing she has done in her position without her husband by her side. She has been commended because it was a solo foreign trip.

Now that the ice has been broken and she knows what she can do on her own, perhaps there will be more trips of this nature.

It appears that she is adjusting well to her role as the first lady. The country will be watching to see other accomplishments from her because more are sure to come. Since Prince Harry hosts the Invictus Games every year, she just might put this event on her calendar to attend again in another location.
