Oklahoma City has made yet another list. Unfortunately for the capital of Oklahoma, the most recent list does not put The Big Friendly in the best light. According to a report by Nazarene Harris from KWTV Channel 9 news on Thursday, Oklahoma City ranked ninth on the list of cities in the United States where bed bugs are most prominent.

Pest control company, Terminix, wrote the list

Terminix, the country's most popular pest control company, wrote a list of cities where Bed Bugs are most prominent. It is based on service calls from January through July of 2017.

Terminix reported they received over 1,000 complaints from home owners in Oklahoma City. At the time of publication, it was unknown if the complaints also included renters.

These bugs are insects who feed on the blood of animals. They prefer the blood of humans to other animals although they will feed on any blood to remain alive.

It can be difficult to avoid getting bed bugs, but is possible. One tip is to check yourself and your clothing. Look for the bed bugs on your person, your clothing and in your in purses and suitcases. Bed bugs are oval-shaped, flat bugs. They are usually about the size of an apple seed and brown in color. These bugs prefer to live in crevices and cracks where people are likely to be such as beds, couches and other furniture.

When you are staying in hotels, try to avoid putting your clothing in the dresser drawers. Do not leave your clothing on the floor. Instead, hang your clothing up to limit the chances of bed bugs attaching to your clothing and coming home with you. Be sure you shake your clothing before wearing it or packing it in your suitcases.You should also look for evidence of a Bed Bug Infestation.

They leave behind small blood stains where they have been feeding. You should also look for insects' feces. Their feces appear as rust-colored stains.

When concerned about getting these bugs, you should invest in plastic covers. Use them on your mattresses, pillows and other furniture. Bed bugs will have a harder time attaching themselves to furniture when it covered by plastic.

How to get rid of these bugs in your clothing, towels and bed linens

As difficult as it is to avoid getting bed bugs, they are even more difficult to get rid of. Should you find yourself with a bed bug infestation, you need to wash all of your clothing, towels and bed linens. Dry in them in your dryer. Bed bugs and their eggs will die within 30 minutes of being in the hot clothes dryer. Of course, you can always contact a local pest control company to get rid of these pesky bugs.
