The Harry Potter franchise will celebrate 20 years this year as 2017 marks the two decade anniversary of the franchise’s first book, ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.' The book series which came into existence in 1997 was later adapted into hugely popular movies and have since gone on to become a cultural classic when it comes to children and adolescent literature. However, to mark its 20 year anniversary, publisher Bloomsbury has announced that it would be launching two new books in the series and both these books will hit shelves this fall.
Two new books coming in the franchise
Fans will be glad to know that not one but two new books are headed to shelves this year. The first book is titled "Harry Potter: A History Of Magic, The Book of the Exhibition," which is reportedly about the various subjects that Hogwarts students apparently had to study. In the original books, very few details were published about the array of interesting and magical subjects that the students had to study each year in the school.
The second book to be released is titled "Harry Potter, A Journey Through a History of Magic," which will give readers an in-depth look at the history of the world that the young wizard inhabits. The book will also reveal new information about the various spells in existence along with the origins of some of the species of creatures seen in the original series.
This book will essentially bridge the gap between all that happened in the book and all of the aspects that remained mysterious.
Both of the books will be released in October as part of an exhibition on Harry Potter which will be organized by the British Library to commemorate the achievements of the franchise and its effect on people.
The books will explore the world of the franchise and the magical aspects of the same. However, it will not add new stories to any of the characters in the original seven books.
Harry Potter experiences such as these have been growing with last year’s West End play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child adding a sequel story to the original series.
A Warner Brothers Studio Tour is also offered to people in North London, who want to experience the setting of the films.
Illustrated edition for ‘The Prisoner of Azkaban’
An illustrated edition of the third book in the original series, 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner Of Azkaban' is also coming out in October this year. Similar to the first two editions, the third book will also be illustrated by Jim Kay. It seems like another exciting year for fans of the popular franchise.
