In an event that shocked the world last Friday, July 21st, an 18-year-old driving a car whilst live-streaming to Instagram crashed the vehicle, killing her sister and then continuing to live-stream the aftermath. Obdulia Sanchez was driving a car with two back seat passengers, one of whom was her sister when she drove too far off the edge of the road and crashed as a result of over-correction. The car pelted into a fence made of barbed-wire before tumbling into a field. 14-year-old Jacquline Sanchez, the culprit's sister, was flung from the car along with the other teenage girl in the back seat.
The two girls were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. In the Instagram video, Obdulia can be seen rapping along to music in the background and speaking into her phone which appears to be balanced on the dashboard. The entire crash is live-streamed and after a few second of rocky video, Obdulia is holding her phone, live-streaming again as her sister lies on the ground extensively bleeding from the head. The other teen girl appears to be trying to wave down someone to help.
"Jacqueline, please wake up"
As the live-stream continues, Obdulia Sanchez starts to cry out hysterically that she didn't want the crash to happen saying, "hey, everybody, if I go to f—— jail for life, you already know why".
She continues screaming into the camera shouting, “My sister is f—— dying. Look, I f—— love my sister to death. I don’t give a f—. Man, we about to die. This is the last thing I wanted to happen to us, but it just did. Jacqueline, please wake up". Obdulia can be seen shaking Jacqueline's lifeless body whilst the second girl screams for help.
Authorities arrived on the scene shortly afterward and 14-year-old Jacqueline was pronounced dead.
"She killed her own sister"
In the aftermath of the accident, Obdulia Sanchez is currently residing in Merced County Jail where charges are being brought against her for gross vehicular manslaughter and driving whilst intoxicated.
It has not been confirmed if the intoxication was the result of drugs or alcohol. Since the accident, the girls' father has spoken out saying, "she feels bad for herself, but she killed her own sister.” The other girl who was in the accident has not yet been confirmed but the crash caused her major leg trauma. Obdulia has previously been in trouble with the law and refers to herself as a "psycho" on social media platforms.
A GoFundMe page has been created to assist with Jacqueline's funeral costs. Jacqueline was due to have her Quinceanera on July 23rd. She would have been 15.
