It seems Facebook Live is not the only platform to air shocking video footage, as 18-year-old Obdulia Sanchez of Stockton, Calif. streamed a car crash live on Instagram over the weekend. In the crash, her 14-year-old sister, Jacqueline, was killed shortly before she was to celebrate her 15th birthday.

Family loses 14-year-old shortly before her birthday

Sanchez’s parents are mourning the loss of their 14-year-old daughter, shortly before she turned 15, along with the arrest of 18-year-old Obdulia, after the Teen lost control of the vehicle, veering on to the shoulder of a road northwest of Fresno.

According to the California Highway Patrol, she then over-corrected which caused the vehicle to swerve back onto the road and across various lanes, finally crashing through a wire fence and into a field. Sanchez’s sister, Jacqueline was thrown from the car and killed in the crash.

Teenager arrested on possible DUI and vehicular manslaughter

As reported by ABC News, Sanchez was arrested and booked into Merced County Jail after the crash on suspicion of a DUI and vehicular manslaughter. According to Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke, another 14-year-old girl who was also traveling in the back seat of the car received serious injuries to her leg, but survived the crash.

The California Highway Patrol has made the video, originally posted to Instagram, a part of the evidence and investigation into the fatal crash.

According to authorities, they became aware of the shocking video footage after it started circulating on social media. It first surfaced after Mary Hernandez recorded the live stream footage on her mobile phone and posted it on Snapchat.

Hernandez said at first, she didn’t want to believe the footage was real and that it was an “eye opener” to her.

As noted by the Daily Star, the video footage – an edited copy of which is included below – shows Sanchez driving and singing to music playing in the car. She uses her hands to make various signs just as the footage goes blurry and the sound of screaming is heard.

As the car crashed and she realized her sister was dead, she can be heard telling Jacqueline to wake up, before saying if she goes to jail for life, everyone will already understand why. The footage concludes with Sanchez kneeling by her sister, saying she was sorry and didn’t mean to kill her and telling Jacqueline to rest in peace. She then went on to say she expects to spend the rest of her life behind bars.

Since the accident, the family has launched a GoFundMe page in an attempt to cover funeral expenses for Jacqueline.
