More information emerged regarding the shooting in Alexandria, Virginia as police confirmed that Louisiana Representative Steve Scalise was one of those injured after a gunman, frustrated with the victory of President Donald Trump, opened fire during Congressional Baseball Game practice.

The shooting took place on Wednesday. The suspect and lone attacker, identified as 66-year-old James T. Hodgkinson, was eventually killed by police after a shootout. He used a rifle to open fire at the practice field in Alexandria and fired a total of 50 rounds.

Four people were shot in the attack.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will work on the case. The bureau also said that the gunman purchased a handgun and a rifle back in March. He was unemployed and was living in his van in Illinois. He took to Facebook to rant against Trump and wrote letters to the local newspaper in his hometown accusing Republicans supporting only the wealthy.

Hodgkinson communicated with some lawmakers in the past. Rep. Jeff Duncan, R- South Carolina, said that before the shooting, Hodgkinson came up to him and asked if those practicing are Republicans or Democrats. Duncan replied that they are Republicans and Hodgkinson said thanks then walked away. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders also said that Hodgkinson volunteered during his 2016 presidential campaign but never had a formal role.

Rep. Mike Bost from Illinois noted that Hodgkinson sent e-mails and made calls to his office and was always angry. Details about what the e-mails contained and what he said over the phone remained unclear.

How did LA Rep. Scalice get shot?

More on Scalise, he was at second base during the GOP baseball practice and was shot once in his left hip.

He collapsed right after getting hit then crawled away from the shooting. The bullet traveled across his body and was in critical condition as confirmed by the MedStar Washington Hospital Center. From the shooting, he also suffered broken bones, torn internal organs, and major internal bleeding.

Trump released a statement regarding the shooting.

He slammed it as a “very brutal assault.” He and his wife, First Lady Melania, visited Scalise at the hospital shortly after he was brought in for surgery. The president also took to Twitter to say that Scalise is one of the greatest people he knows. He updated his followers on the social media platform that Scalise is in tough shape but continues to be a real fighter. He asked for prayers for the Louisiana representative.

Aside from Scalise, the others injured from the attack were identified as Matt Mika, a lobbyist, Zach Barth, a legislative correspondent, and the two Capitol Police Officers namely Special Agents David Bailey and Crystal Griner.
