Donald Trump has been forced to deal with a lot of criticism ever since he was sworn into office back in January, and it doesn't look like it's going to end anytime soon. After the president was hit with backlash for spending another weekend away from the White House, Trump lashed out on Twitter.

Trump on Twitter

For decades, Donald Trump has been known as a successful businessman, primarily based out of New York City. With Trump Towers located right in the middle of the Big Apple, the former host of "The Apprentice" has done much of his dealings in New York.

However, Trump also owns various properties around the United States and even internationally. During the 2016 presidential election, Trump vowed to be a "Washington outsider," promising his supporters that he would spend his time in the White House and get to work on "Making America Great Again." One of Trump's most used talking points was criticizing then president Barack Obama for his sporadic golf trips. Despite this, Trump has made over 20 trips to golf courses or resorts since he was elected back in November, highlighting the irony of his previous campaign remarks about Obama. With his Palm Beach, Florida resort Mar-a-Lago closing for the season, Trump announced that he would now be taking himself to Bedminster, New Jersey, the location of the Trump National Golf Course.

When the billionaire real estate mogul made the announcement, critics were quick to fire back, asking why he wouldn't either stay in the White House, or head back to his home in New York City with his wife and young son. As seen on his Twitter account on May 6, Trump voiced his aggravation.

Taking to his official Twitter feed on Saturday afternoon, Donald Trump made it clear that he wasn't happy with his critics, while taking a shot at New York City in the process.

"The reason I am staying in Bedminster, N. J., a beautiful community, is that staying in NYC is much more expensive and disruptive," Trump tweeted out, before adding, "Meetings!" Trump's reference to New York City being "disruptive" is in regards to the growing protests taking place against him, which often occur at or around Trump Tower.

Twitter reacts

In response to Donald Trump's apparent low blow at New York City and the protests taking place, social media users quickly trolled the commander in chief. "The reason you are staying at Bedminster is because you want to vacation every weekend and have us pay for it. How's the golfing?" songwriter Molly O'Reilly wrote on Twitter.

"I thought you said that you 'would rarely leave the White House?'" journalist Simon Hedlin rhetorically tweeted, before adding, "Are you sure that you're not playing golf?" "Or maybe you just don't want the embarrassment of getting booed out of your hometown?" filmmaker Simon Best tweeted about Donald Trump.

In a follow-up tweet, Best wrote, "As if you've been concerned with wasting taxpayer money during your frequent golfing excursions to Mar-a-Lago."

"You said this yesterday! The dementia is getting worse it seems," Roland Schahill posted on Twitter, before adding a "The Soprano's" reference by tweeting, "Don't forget, you have the Bada Bing strip club in New Jersey." Donald Trump's continued outbursts on social media have become routine, but it hasn't stopped those who oppose him from speaking out.
