A drug-related criminal investigation led to 10 people being arrested in Shawnee, Oklahoma. The investigation started when a teacher found a marijuana cigarette in a child's Easter basket. She was counting the Easter eggs in the basket when she found a marijuana cigarette. The Easter basket was brought to the school by the child's aunt and the quick-thinking teacher contacted local law enforcement.
Easter basket investigation
Local law enforcement pulled out all the stops to discover exactly where the marijuana cigarette came from and how it got in a child's Easter basket.
Included in the drug-related investigation were the Shawnee Police Department, Sac and Fox Nation Police Department and the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office Warrant Team. The City of Shawnee Marshal's and the District 23 Drug and Violent Crime Task Force were also involved. The warrant was served to a residence in the 300 block of south Osage. At the time of publication, it was unknown who lived in the home and who owned the residence.
A search warrant was both issued and served the same day the marijuana cigarette was found in the Easter basket. Law Enforcement Officers noticed an overwhelming odor of marijuana inside the home. There were 10 adults and six children in the home.
A law enforcement officer noticed a woman placing something inside her pants as she was leaving a bedroom.
The woman later said the object was a glass smoking pipe. The smoking pipe had white residue inside of it. At the time of publication, it was unknown what the white residue was.
Growing marijuana
The law enforcement officers found four Styrofoam containers near the back door. Those Styrofoam containers contained both dirt and green plants.
Those plants were marijuana plants. Law enforcement officers also found drug paraphernalia inside the home. The paraphernalia included grinders, digital scales, smoking pipes and a mirror with both white crystals and a loose green leafy substances. A shotgun was also found in the home.
The 10 people were arrested on several different charges.
Those arrested included both men and women. Their ages range from 19 years old to 56 years old. Those charges include endeavoring to cultivate marijuana, child neglect, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. After the arrests, the children were removed from the home. They are currently in the care of the Department of Human Services.
