Retired U.S. Army Lt. General Joseph Keith Kellogg, Jr., a Vietnam War veteran, is in as Acting national security adviser, and retired U.S. Army Lt. General Michael Flynn, is out as National Security Adviser in a whirlwind series of stunning events. It was reported by Raw Story that former acting United States Attorney General Sally Yates had warned "White House counsel" the Gen.
Flynn may have been blackmailed by the Russians. This is the same U.S. Attorney that President Trump had fired over the "Mulsim Ban" executive order.
The WH released a full text of Gen Flynn's resignation letter, apologizing to President Trump and Vice President Trump for "inadvertently" briefing them with "incomplete information regarding my phone calls with the Russian Ambassador (Sergey Kislyak)." Gen Flynn went on to say that the president and vice-president accepted his apology. He went on to praise President Trump whom he said "in just three weeks, has reoriented American foreign policy in fundamental ways to restore America's leadership position in the world."
WH in 'full-scale chaos'
The fact is that the White House has been in "full-scale chaos and dysfunctionality" for the past three weeks and has been bogged down by the controversy with the Russians.
However, the Russians dismissed the controversy.
The search will commence for a permanent head of the crucial position. It is expected to be filled sooner rather than later. In addition to retired Lt. Gen. Joseph K. Kellogg Jr. (the named acting director), speculation is that retired General David Petraeus will meet with Trump at the White House on Tuesday to discuss accepting the position. Also in the running for the permanent director is Vice Admiral Robert Harward.
Kellyanne Conway on a downward slide
In another related matter, Kellyanne Conway, a counselor to the president, told Steve Kornacki on MSNBC that Trump had “full confidence” in Flynn. Just another sign that that once vaunted Ms.
Conway is out of touch and losing credibility with the White House and is no longer in the loop on White House. Many say that in order to get Trump's attention, staffers like Ms. Conway go on television to get messages to him. On Tuesday morning, Ms. Conway appeared on ABC's Good Morning America and said essentially nothing to George Stephanopoulos. Ms. Conway also talked to Matt Lauer on NBC's Today Show and also said nothing.
As if the White House doesn't have enough troubles, just on Sunday, the executive director of Newsmax, Christopher Ruddy, said that White House chief-of-staff Reince Priebus is in "way over his head" and is to blame for the troubles in the Oval Office.
