After one month of being the 45th President of the United States, President Donald Trump has made some obvious changes to the Oval Office. That's understandable since he will spend a lot of time there. Therefore, he has put some of his personal touches.
Gold curtains
Within the first few hours of being sworn in on January 20, the very first thing the president did was to change the curtains from the red ones that used to hang behind the desk of former president Barack Obama to gold curtains. The new president loves the color gold. Trump Tower in New York is filled with gold furnishing and fixtures.
The seat belts on his private plane have gold buckles.
Rug and couches
The large, circular rug featuring quotes from four former presidents and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was replaced with a gold sunburst rug designed by former first lady Laura Bush. The rug in the oval office is now red and beige with green leaves around the outer edge. Trump said it reflects the optimistic outlook that he likes. President Trump removed the casual gray suede couches and replaced them with sofas with a brocade fabric.
Busts and a portrait
It was mistakenly reported that Trump removed the bust of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. However, the bust remains in the Oval Office along with a bust of Winston Churchill that Obama had removed.
A portrait of Andrew Jackson has been added to the wall in the Oval Office.
Things Trump kept
While Trump made some changes to the Oval Office, he did not change everything. He kept the same Resolute Desk used by President Obama. Not only was it used by Obama, it was also used by other presidents as well. They include Presidents George W.
Bush, Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, and John F. Kennedy. The Resolute Desk has been used by more past U.S. presidents than the Hoover Desk, the Johnson Desk and the Wilson Desk combined.
The telephones were also kept. Trump reportedly said the telephones are the most beautiful phones he ever used in his life. Not in the Oval Office, but President Trump made sure that the kitchen is well stocked with Lay's potato chips. He doesn't drink or smoke, but that seems to be his guilty pleasure.
