Actor Kevin Spacey admits he has had relationships with men all his life. His confession came as a response to actor Anthony Rapp's allegation on Sunday that Spacey came on to him when he was only 14 years old and Spacey was 26. That's when Spacey responded on Twitter that he has no memory of the encounter that probably would have been over three decades ago in 1986 when they were both starring in a Broadway play.

Spacey's apology

The "House of Cards" actor apologized to the "Star Trek" actor for any inappropriate behavior. Spacey said that if anything like that happened, it might have been because he was drunk at the time.

Spacey's apology seems sincere along with his admission that he doesn't remember an encounter with a teenager who is now a 46-year-old successful actor like himself. Spacey used the opportunity to address something he has been private about up to now. The 58-year-old actor admitted publicly for the first time that he favors men. He further explained that he has had relationships with both men and women. However, he said he has had romantic relationships with men throughout his entire life. Now, he is choosing to come out of the closet publicly.

No memory

It is interesting that Spacey has no memories of the incident, but Rapp remembers it as it had just happened. The younger actor remembers vividly that he was the only teen at a party.

So, most of the evening he watched television alone in a bedroom away from the crowd. He didn't know the party had ended until Spacey came into the bedroom and seduced him. Rapp, who came out of the closet years ago, had shared this story before, but this is the first time he has mentioned Spacey's name. As soon as Spacey heard that he was part of this story, he apologized.

Why now?

Rapp explained that he is sharing this story and identifying Spacey because of the allegations made against movie producer Harvey Weinstein and other top executives. He describes the women who have come forward as courageous. He said he is standing on their shoulders and speaking out now. In other words, Rapp is part of the "Me Too" campaign that was started by actress Alyssa Milano earlier this month.

More and more of these stories are coming out now decades after they happened. At least five women have accused former President George H.W. Bush of groping them years ago. Like Spacey, the 41st President of the United States said he doesn't remember doing it. Also, like Spacey, he apologized. Hopefully, these allegations won't tarnish the life and legacy of the 93-year-old former president.
