The New York Fashion Week is starting its first show on September 7 and will run until September 13. It is one of the biggest fashion shows in the world, featuring various renowned designers, brands, and models in the industry.

Viewing the schedule of this month’s fashion event, many of the designers lined-up for the shows belong to the Asian race. There are obviously Western designers on the list who are set to unveil their new collections, but one thing that is interesting to note is the plethora of designers coming from Asia.

Japanese designer Tadashi Shoji is headlining his own show on September 7.

He is born and raised in Sendai in Japan, according to his profile on the New York Fashion Week website. In 1973, Tadashi traveled to the United States where he was able to work with top designers in the country.

Since he launched his own fashion line, the company has grown to over 1,000 stores worldwide, including spaces in Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s and more. He is a designer of lifestyle brands and ready-to-wear apparel, the website added. Among the famous celebrities that have worn his collection include Kate Hudson, Katy Perry, and Miranda Kerr.

Featuring Asian creations

The fashion event will also showcase the designs of Kim Shui. This Asian artist might have been born in the United States, but her cultural background speaks for herself.

She has taken inspiration from her multicultural roots to transform and create various techniques for her designs.

She first debuted her ready-to-wear dresses at the New York Fashion Week last year. Then, she was sponsored and chosen by Vogue Italia to showcase her designs in Milan, her profile noted.

Aside from Shui, designer Prabal Gurung is also set to launch his new designs in an event arranged just for his collection during this week’s show.

Gurung was born in Singapore but grew up in Kathmandu in Nepal. According to his profile, his creations are centered around high standards and innovation. Among the famous personalities who have worn his designs include former First Lady Michelle Obama and Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton.

Exciting shows

Alongside these designers, there will also be shows that are exclusively organized for certain organizations.

Concept Korea will be a show that features Korean-based fashion designers in their attempt to penetrate the United States market. This is organized by Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the website said.

A separate show just prepared for the hit reality show “Project Runway” is also going to happen at the New York Fashion Week. It will feature designs from some of the talented contestants from the competition.
