Nintendo of America president and COO, Reggie Fils-Aime has announced his upcoming retirement from the company after 15 years of servitude, 13 of which he spent under the positions. His position is scheduled to cease effectively on April 15 of in the position.

Reggie Fils-Aime, age 57 made the announcement via Nintendo of America's official Twitter feed. In the video, Fils-Aime gives thanks to all of those who supported him including his loyal fan base and the company's consumer base. He also proclaimed that he will be leaving the company in "good health and good spirits," adding that "his body is still ready."

“Nintendo owns a part of my heart forever,” said Fils-Aime in a statement.

“It’s a part that is filled with gratitude–for the incredibly talented people I’ve worked with, for the opportunity to represent such a wonderful brand, and most of all, to feel like a member of the world’s most positive and enduring gamer community."

Reggie Fils-Aime will be succeeded by the company's current SVP of sales and marketing, Doug Bowser.

Bowser to rule over NOA

Doug Bowser, the man who will succeed Reggie Fils-Aime as president and COO at Nintendo of America has served with the company since 2015. Previously, he worked for Electronic Arts for over eight years, most recently as vice president of global business planning.

It should be pointed out that despite his surname 'Bowser," he has no affiliation with the character of the same name. However, Fils Aime suggested in the video that the coincidence helps to make his successor seem better fitted for the role.

“As I head off in a couple of months to spend more time with my wife, my family, and my friends, I’m handing over the controller to my friend Doug Bowser,” he said.

“With a name like Bowser who better to hold the keys to the Nintendo castle.”

A 15-year legacy

Reggie Fils-Aime has been employed at Nintendo's American branch since 2003 and was eventually promoted to president and COO in 2006. Within that period, he has acted as sort of a spokesperson for Nintendo in the Western markets including the US.

He first became a household name during a spotlight at E3 2004 where he made the famous quote: “My name is Reggie. I’m about kicking a**. I’m about taking names. And we’re about making games.” ,

Fils-Aime further cemented his legacy with another quote he made in 2007 during a presentation where he was called to the stage to introduce the Wii Fit Board peripheral. in the presentation, he stated, "My body...My body is ready." The quote quickly became an internet meme.
