The latest updates for "The Last of Us 2" reveal a possible multiplayer mode and smarter computer A.I. in the game. The sequel's director Anthony Newman and Kurt Margenau told GameSpot that the sequel will have multiplayer content and they will announce more concrete details about it soon.

Naughty Dog also announced that enemy units in the game are smarter and more dangerous and will provide players with a challenge. The game publisher showcased the sequel's demo during their panel at the Electronic Entertainment Expo event. Players assume the role of Ellie and they must survive a harsh world full of cannibals and infected creatures.

Multiplayer mode for 'The Last of Us 2' teased

According to GameSpot, Naughty Dog will bring back "Factions" in "The Last of Us 2" and promised more gameplay features about it in a later date.

"Multiplayer is coming back," Margenau said."We're not going to talk details yet about what form that takes, but we can confirm there will be multiplayer."

For those who are not familiar with it, Factions was added in the first game back in 2013 and was also featured in the remastered version for the PlayStation 4. The game mode allows players to assume the role of a survivor as they fight an opponent or another faction in a deathmatch with compelling storytelling. Players will receive supplies as rewards for each victory.

While the directors did not state when they will share the full details about it, video game fans speculated that they will likely announce it at this year's PlayStation Experience or the Game Awards in December. Furthermore, there is also a chance that the multiplayer content may be part of the sequel's post-launch plans, depending on its official release date.

Smarter enemies to fight

According to Gamerant, Naughty Dog stated during the E3 2018 panel that players will encounter smarter A.I. enemies in "The Last of Us 2." The E3 gameplay demo featured enemies that are more coordinated and dangerous, providing an extra challenge for the players.

Enemies can now share information with another one and they "sync up" to call in reinforcements to make things more difficult.

Players must be smarter and more creative in dealing with them. They will also have great awareness of Ellie's location and will not have to hesitate to find her quickly. They can now search underneath things and pull Ellie out from the covers.

Naughty Dog also teased new infected creatures for the sequel and they will be pivotal to the game's narrative. Players are forced to be more alert and think about how to take down their foes in a fight.
