"Fortnite Battle Royale" is currently the most popular video game in the world, and it's breaking numerous records set by other games. This product by Epic Games has truly changed the video game industry, and we can expect more and more battle royale games to be released this year because of "Fortnite's" success. This game is quite innovative and original, and it also allows players to do cross-play with other gaming platforms.

While cross-play is an amazing addition that brings gamers closer, there are some restrictions. For example, PlayStation players are unable to play with their Xbox One friends, and as it was recently found out, they also cannot use the same account on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. Sony is facing a strong backlash for not allowing cross-play between these platforms, so it will be interesting to see if something changes.

Restricted cross-play

"Fortnite Battle Royale" was released on Nintendo Switch on June 12 and it has received over two million downloads within the first 24 hours of its release.

The popular battle royale game is already a huge hit on Nintendo's gaming console, but players are disappointed that they can't use their accounts on both Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.

If you already use an Epic Games account on PlayStation 4, you will have to create a new account to use it on Nintendo Switch. This means that you will have to start over and lose all of your progress and cosmetic items, which is a huge issue. While Epic Games made it clear that cosmetic item purchases may not be shared between every platform, gamers are still upset and want Sony to allow complete cross-play.

Will Sony change anything?

At the end of 2017, Sony has sold 2.5 times consoles than Microsoft and controls more than 70 percent of the market share.

On the other side, Nintendo has sold around 20 million Switch units, which is far inferior to both Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Considering that Sony completely dominates the gaming console market, it is unlikely that anything a big change will happen soon. However, it won't be surprising if the company allows PlayStation 4 users to use their account on Nintendo Switch. While enabling a fully functional cross-play wouldn't make much sense for Sony from a business perspective, most of us can agree that the Nintendo Switch move was a bit too extreme.

At the moment, the Japanese company is facing strong criticism, which is something that could make them change a few things.
