The original "Spyro" game from the first PlayStation is going to be remastered."Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!" and "Spyro: Year of the Dragon" will also be remastered. Each game will feature a remastered soundtrack, PlayStation 4 Pro support, new lighting, new animations, new cinematics, and an overhaul of the original save system. This collection will be exclusive to the PS4 for one year. This makes sense considering the original "Spyro" game was a PS One exclusive. The collection is supposed to be released in September which is the 20th anniversary of the franchise.
'Spyro' and 'Spyro 2'
The game that started it all -- "Spyro The Dragon" -- was first released in September 1998. It sold around five million copies. In the game, the five realms live in harmony. A reporter conducts an interview with a couple of dragons from the artisan realm. The reporter asks them about the Gnasty Gnorc who lives in the sixth realm. They basically insult him and claim he is no threat to the dragon kingdom. Little do they know that the gnorc was watching the interview at home. Furious about the interview, he encases all the dragons in crystals. He then sends hordes of gnorcs to invade.
Spyro is the only one who managed to not get encased in crystal and avoid the attack. It is up to him and his dragonfly companion Sparx to save the day.
He must visit all the realms in order, free the dragons, rescue dragon eggs, and defeat Gnasty. "Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage" was re-released for the PS3 and PSP. In "Spyro 2," Ripto the warlock decides to take over the fantasy realm of Avalar. Elora, Hunter, and the Professor summon Spyro to fight him, and it is up to him to save Avalar.
'Spyro: Year of the Dragon'
"Spyro: Year of the Dragon" was re-released for the PS3 and the PSP as well. It is the third installment in the series. The game sold at least two million copies and received critical acclaim. In the third installment, he and the other dragons are celebrating the year of the dragon. The event only happens every 12 years.
The celebration comes to a halt when a rabbit named Bianca steals the dragon eggs for the sorceress. The dragon eggs are spread throughout several worlds. Once again it is up to Spyro to save the eggs and stop the sorceress.
This time it isn't just Sparx helping him. There are five playable characters: Hunter, Sheila, Sergeant Byrd, Bently, and Agent Nine. Sparx is also available for certain levels. Players must find 150 dragon eggs, and there are 30 worlds to explore. It was this installment that introduced minigames to the series.
