Epic Games has just rolled out another Fortnite Battle Royale State of Development blog post as it teased some upcoming contents and quality of life improvements within the game. Part of the post hinted at some matchmaking improvements that got players a bit worried. They were given the impression that the game maker could be adding a skill-based matchmaking feature into the game which they believe that it will negatively impact the third-person shooter.

Players are not liking it

A Redditor (Dead_tread) recently took to FortniteBR's subreddit to express his worries about what he believes could be introduced into the Battle Royale mode of the game – skill-based matchmaking (SBMM).

The fan believes that in the event Epic would indeed go down that path, the feature will definitely ruin the game. Per the Reddit post, the player stated that such feature has no place in "Fortnite" Battle Royale adding that the appeal of the game is the players' drive to improve.

The post has been gaining quite some traction as it has been upvoted for over 9,000 times by members of the subreddit. Additionally, most of the comments seem to agree with the Redditor as they stated that such matchmaking feature is part of the reason why they left other shooter games for "Fortnite." However, there are some who believe that the devs might be working on some upcoming events for the game where the SBMM feature would be applicable.

For the uninitiated, Epic Games recently revealed that they are planning to tweak the matchmaking system of the Battle Royale shooter as they hinted that it will be focusing on "a more balanced distribution of skill." The game maker did not disclose additional details about it, though a lot of fans are already a bit worried.

New cosmetics in the works

Meanwhile, the latest State of Dev also unveiled some upcoming items/cosmetics for the game. These items include an astronaut suit, a dragon glider, and even a Llama Unicorn Pickaxe for the Bright Bomber skin.

They also stated that they are planning to make some improvements on previously released cosmetics in the game as they posted a short clip featuring the Party Animal Pickaxe alongside some splash animation.

Epic also announced that they are planning to implement a 60 FPS mode for "Fortnite" BR on consoles as they intend to roll it out later this month. They even revealed the limited time modes they plan to release in March which include:

  • Drop into the first circle
  • Team sizes in between 50v50 and squads
  • 50v50v2
  • Blitz Mode
  • Generally less time between circles

The developer also announced that the shooting test #1 will be up until Monday, February 12 as they gather more feedback from its player base. Check out a video about "Fortnite" here:
