The latest updates for "Star Wars Battlefront 2" will feature the return of the Sith Lord, Emperor Palpatine to the sequel's Story Mode and grand scheme against the Rebels. Hero designer Guillaume Mroz revealed more details about the game's Hero A.I. and lightsaber combat.
The Emperor returns
Electronic Arts and DICE launched a teaser clip for "Star Wars Battlefront 2' story mode and it featured the return of Emperor Palpatine a.k.a. Darth Sidious to the "Star Wars" franchise. The Emperor is joined by the game's main protagonist, Iden Versio, and his father as they discuss the Sith Lord's backup plan if the rebels won the war.
In the trailer, Palpatine orders Admiral Versio to commence "Operation: Cinder" as his final plan will erase the Rebel forces, the Jedi, and free will from the galaxy's history. While the developers did elaborate Operation Cinder in the game, fans speculated that the Sith Lord's final plan will give rise to the First Order and set-up the events of "The Force Awakens" movie.
Emperor Palpatine was the main villain in the original and prequel movies and has manipulated the Galactic Republic and Separatist army from the shadows. He is also responsible for Anakin Skywalker's turn to the dark side and eradicated the entire Jedi Order.
Game director Mark Thompson stated that the franchise has not yet tackled the Empire's point-of-view in the conflict, making an interesting storyline and discover how and why Iden chose to stay with them despite their numerous atrocities to the galaxy.
More hero and combat details
Hero designer Guillaume Mroz revealed more details on the sequel's Hero A.I. and combat systems after answering numerous fans questions on Twitter. Mroz stated that his team is still finding more ways to improve the Hero A.I. for "Battlefront 2's" Arcade and Skirmish modes.
Mroz announced that lightsaber combat in the sequel will be a huge improvement from the previous game as Jedi and Sith characters are more agile and responsive in their controls.
He also notes that dodges and blocks are important aspects in the game.
The sequel will feature 14-playable characters and players can choose their favorite heroes and villains such as Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Darth Maul, Kylo Ren, Rey, Chewbacca, and more.
Gamers can engage in fierce battles from different planets like Naboo, Kamino, Yavin 4, Fondor, and Starkiller Base.
Players will be able to use battle points to upgrade their weapons and purchase battle cards. The game will launch on Nov. 17 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC platforms.
Hero AI is fairly difficult, as an example Han's shoulder charge would often end up in suicide. But we investigate ways to iterate on skirm
