“Code Vein” is one of the new games revealed at the Tokyo Game Show this year. Bandai-Namco even featured them in their booth to highlight the game’s features. After the event, game director Hiroshi Yoshimura and producer Keita Iizuka were interviewed by Siliconera to share other details about the game.
Here’s what players can expect from “Code Vein.”
It’s difficult
While discussing the difficulty of the game, Director Yoshimura shared that he had played the demo twice, and died numerous times, before he reached the boss. The two declared that there is no way to change it.
If you want to go through a stage quickly, you aren't able to change the game difficulty from hard to easy. In “Code Vein,” you have to do your best.
Game producer Iizuka said that the game is made for players to improve themselves and find ways to make things easier. After all, there are many ways for the players to do so. They can employ light to heavy attacks, dodge enemies, or suck the blood of the fallen foes. The developers justified the game difficulty by giving players options to recover their health and improving their character.
Players can also explore many kinds of character traits in “Code Vein.” Unlike games like “Dark Souls,” where the character changes no longer apply at some point in the game; “Code Vein” gives players a lot of room for growth.
You can change the protagonist’s weapons or skills without the fear of sticking to one job class or specialty. This kind of freedom will help any player get through the game’s difficulty.
During the game, players can also take 1 NPC to tag alongside them. This character will not only provide support in battle but will also become handy in their journey throughout the series.
Why Vampires?
The last questions were about the main character-- Why did the creators make the protagonist a vampire? Director Yoshimura laughed and said that it’s because he simply loves vampires, he has been in love with them since he was a kid. The creatures also met their needs when they were brainstorming. When they were thinking about the game scenario and how the characters could gain new abilities or grow; they thought about vampires acquiring skills from stealing blood.
Plus, he had never seen a game with some kind of mechanic, so they gave it a go.
“Code Vein” is the upcoming game by Bandai-Namco. The game is set to be released in 2018 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Microsoft Windows.
