Blizzard Entertainment recently released a wonderful animated short film in “Overwatch” focusing on the ice-wielding hero Mei. The seventh short film was entitled “Rise and Shine.” The almost 10-minute-long video gives a glimpse into what happens after Mei wakes up from a cryogenically frozen sleep for several years while doing research in Antarctica. Mei also found out that “Overwatch” team has been disbanded and she is the only scientist left at Ecopoint Antarctica
New animated short starring Mei
Just like the previous short films, the level of quality in the animation is really spectacular.
Blizzard has sought other ways to illustrate the game's deep lore because “Overwatch” is a shooter game with no single-player component. According to a report from Polygon, Blizzard Entertainment also released a new Hearthstone animated short film.
The previous short films that were released are entitled “Recall,” “Alive,” “Dragons,” “Hero,” “Infiltration,” and “The Last Bastion.” Each of these amazing short films offer up a taste of the “OverWatch” overarching story and a lot more insight into the characters that people play.
On the other hand, “Overwatch” players are used to having regular game updates. The developer keeps adding new characters, game modes, and events to keep the players engaged in the game.
Jeff Kaplan, “Overwatch” lead designer and Blizzard Entertainment’s Vice President, announced that the sixth competitive season of “Overwatch” will take place across two months rather than three. These changes will also make the game experience more fun and rewarding.
Additional updates are coming to the competitive season target skill rating decay.
In the future, players will only need to play five games per week at diamond and above to curb decay. For those players who do not get hit by it, they will only lose 25 skills rating instead of 50. Blizzard is also changing the way control maps work.
Players can be demoted from Platinum, Gold, and Silver
Blizzard has confirmed that players that are in Platinum, Gold and Silver ranks can be demoted.
If players are not able to maintain the minimum required skill rating to stay in a certain tier, the players will drop down a rank. Competitive Points are going to be awarded per tier at season end. Players will receive CP for whatever is the highest tier achieved.
The Competitive Play Season 5 of “Overwatch” will end on August 25. Along with the new short animated film, Blizzard also revealed changes for heroes like D.Va, Roadhog, Junkrat, and Orisa. New maps and game modes are also coming to the game soon. Some of the upcoming features are currently available in the Public Test Region.
