Gamers have been showered with a barrage of gaming news this week from Gamescom 2017. Several developers have provided in-depth information about previously announced titles and even revealed new ones in the works. As the video game trade show winds down this week, attendees were surprised when Ubisoft and Square Enix announced a collaboration with one another. Two of the biggest franchises from two top-tier game studios will presumably pay homage to one another. It was revealed that both companies will showcase a “Final Fantasy XV” and “Assassin’s Creed Origins” crossover feature.
‘Final Fantasy XV’ & ‘Assassins Creed Origins’
The development teams for both “Final Fantasy XV” and “Assassin’s Creed Origins” reportedly made the crossover announcement. Ubisoft’s Ashraf Ismail and Square Enix’s Hajime Tabata unveiled their project together with new artwork that featured each game’s respective protagonists. Additionally, each character showcases swapped weapon sets from each of their games. Noctis is shown decked out in Bayek’s weapons, while the other one is likewise equipped with the former’s Engine Blade weapon. The collaboration will reportedly start of August 30, 2017.
Respective details for each game
Square Enix revealed that their side of the event will begin on the above-mentioned date.
It is presumably limited to players who were able to get the Dream Egg from “Final Fantasy XV’s” Moogle Chocobo Carnival Event last January. Qualified gamers will reportedly receive an Assassin’s costume for Noctis. The following day, all gamers with a copy of the open-world RPG can download the “Assassin’s Festival” DLC for free.
The event will see a visual change for Lestallum to celebrate the special crossover celebration. Additionally, gamers can apparently enjoy new items, quests, and a special ability to give the protagonists unique skills like those of the assassins.
Meanwhile, Ubisoft’s “Assassin’s Creed Origins” will launch their respective event later this year.
As of now, the developer has note shared further details about their own crossover, but the official artwork shows Bayek with a unique shield and Noctis’s Engine blade weapon in hand. Presumably, players will most likely find that the items should come up in their inventory during gameplay.
Reason for their collaboration
Fans are obviously curios as to why both Ubisoft and Square Enix decided to work together. Both parties confirmed that their partnership was planned over three years ago. Each game studio admitted their appreciation for each other’s work. “Assassin’s Creed Origins” game director, Ashraf Ismail, explains that “this collaboration is the result of being huge fans.” He noted that “there’s a lot of respect” between each of the two developers and they were excited for the "opportunity to pay homage to each other’s work.” The new event further adds more “Final Fantasy XV” content since its launch last year.
