Rumors have come in hot and heavy regarding the next firmware update of Sony for the PlayStation 4 or PS4 console. Reports are claiming that the update will bring compatibility for the PlayStation 4 and PS One Classics.
Features of PS4 5.0 firmware update
According to Comic Book, the PlayStation 4 5.0 update will allow gamers of PS4 to purchase games of PS One Classic from the PSN Store.
Then, gamers can play the titles right on their gaming systems. Currently, the PS One Classics games can be played through the PS3 as well as the PS Vita.
Game Rant pointed out that this move might be the Japanese tech giant’s answer to the strategy of Microsoft in making the backward compatibility program of Xbox 360 for the Xbox One. It seems like Sony might actually launch a backward compatibility program to its consoles.
However, the PlayStation 4 5.0 update is expected to allow gamers to change their PSN IDs. Players have been asking for this feature since the PS3, but the tech giant has been adamant about it.
Although the feature might be on every gamers’ wish list, the company could still hold back on it.
The PS4 5.0 firmware update might also include the ability to remove trials and demos from the library of the user. This feature could be the gamers’ solution to easily clean up their libraries. Also, the firmware update might boost the number of gamers in the PSN Party.
Update’s beta testers
The tech company is searching for beta testers to ensure everything works smoothly before launching the major firmware update. Sony announced through their PlayStation blog that owners can sign up to be a beta tester. But, according to Christian Post, the company will have to select several users to join the beta test.
Users who are selected to participate in the beta test will receive an email with instructions on how to acquire the beta version. Participants should be 18 years old and above. Also, a stable internet connection as well access to a Master Account is required for the participants.
Nonetheless, Sony’s last major update for its gaming system arrived in the shape of 4.50. The update comes along with custom wallpapers, PS4 Pro Boost Mode, and external hard drive support.
Meanwhile, the company is poised to officially reveal the PlayStation Plus August titles this month. One of the free games available to subscribers will be the first-person shooter video game, “Killzone ShadowFall.”
