Kingdom Hearts 3” is one of the highly anticipated games by JRPG fans which last saw Sora, the game’s protagonist, almost 13 years ago. Sure there were several spin-offs and remakes of the game released during that timeframe but fans are eager for the direct sequel.

There is some good news though, as “Kingdom Hearts 3” release date was finally narrowed down to 2018 announced at this year’s D23 Expo.

Moreover, Nintendo Switch owners should rejoice as Tetsuya Namora, director of KH3, said that there is a possibility that the JRPG will make its way to the hybrid console, according to a report by Game Rant.

One console at a time

Although a Nintendo Switch appearance is possible, Namora and his team want to focus their attention on the consoles that KH3 will be appearing on first – the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Namora said if they had announced a Nintendo Switch version of KH3 as early as now, PS4 and Xbox One owners might react negatively and may demand the game to be released on their consoles first.

That is why Namora and his team are putting their effort first for those consoles before considering any additional platforms for the JRPG title.

'Kingdom Hearts' meet 'Toy Story'

It may have taken a while for the third installment to arrive, but those who have waited patiently will be rewarded as “Kingdom Hearts 3” will apparently join the “Toy Story” universe, shown in the game’s teaser trailer.

In the trailer, Sora, Donald Duck, and Goofy were seen teaming up with Woody and Buzz Lightyear as they defeat their enemies. The cut scene makes you feel that you’re watching a “Toy Story” movie with its remarkable visuals and design.

Namora explains why 'Kingdom Hearts 3' took so long to develop

KH3’s director tried to explain the setbacks during the development of the game. Namora said that it has a lot to do with the company’s (Square Enix) decision-making and was adamant that there were no problems with the development team itself.

Early into the development, there was a decision made to switch over to an external engine – Unreal Engine 4, which forced the team to start over.

In addition, the company is very busy with other projects that Namora and his team had to patiently wait for some of their proposals to be approved.
