It cannot be denied that most titles from the Wii U console have been ported to Nintendo Switch. This move can be best exemplified by the likes of “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe” and “Arms,” among others. Now, another title from the said console is about to surface in Nintendo’s joy-con.

Nintendo has hinted the upcoming release of “Super Smash Bros” to the popular console Nintendo Switch. This was made following the company’s decision to further port titles from the Wii U consoles. Although nothing specific has been unveiled, this hint should be enough to stir the interest of many.

The company’s utmost goal

In an interview with Waypoint, the company’s very own boss named Reggie Fils-Aime revealed the reason why they did not give so much focus on indie titles. He iterated that they plan to port as many possible games from Wii U first. Since they simply do not want to just port these titles, a good amount of legwork must be done to introduce new elements. This was meant to, well, make the ported games look fresher in the console.

Fils-Aime said that the decision the implemented in Nintendo Switch is only temporary. It does not necessarily mean that titles from indie developers will not be included. Rather, it is a matter of knowing which direction to go with first. Obviously, the studio went with porting title from Wii U.

So far, though, the move has given them tremendous results. “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe,” in particular, became one of the top-selling titles of recent memory. This perhaps inspired the company to move forward with the strategy.

‘Pokken Tournament DX’ as an example

The aforementioned Nintendo Switch executive said that “Pokken Tournament DX” is the best epitome of what they are trying to convey as a company.

The game, which also came from Wii U, now has various added elements. For instance, there are multiple fighters. Fils-Aime explained that this element, in particular, gives fans “a reason to buy into it.” Interestingly, the same idea can be applied to “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.” Unlike in the past, the game now provides a mode that fans have been dying to see.

For Fils-Aime, this is quite “compelling for the consumer.”

It holds true that Nintendo Switch has been successful in ported games. However, most players still believe that the company should make it a goal to move forward with indie titles. After all, if they want fresh ones, these kinds of games are definitely fresh. They were not inspired by previous titles, as they were developed from scratch.
