"Grand Theft Auto V" was originally released by developer Rockstar Games back in 2013 and was a massive hit with both gamers and critics alike. The game was highly anticipated and, despite several delays, proved to be worth the wait with its beautiful graphics, memorable characters and quests, vast open-world, and incredibly chaotic online multiplayer. The game later saw a release on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2014, and then a PC release in the Spring of 2015.
Despite being several years old, "Grand Theft Auto V" has managed to once again climb to the top of the UK game charts.
Fierce competition
It was certainly no easy feat for "Grand Theft Auto V" to achieve. We can only speculate as to how well the game is selling when it's able to take the top spot when its rivals are the likes of much newer games. "Dirt 4" came in second this week with "FIFA 17" coming third. "Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands" is in fourth and "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" brings up the rear in fifth.
A tough week
The past week has been a tough one for "Grand Theft Auto V" as it was recently announced that the game's publisher, Take-Two, was going to ban certain types of mods on the PC version of the game.
This caused an uproar among the PC gaming community and they began going to Steam to give the game bad reviews. This, in turn, caused Take-Two to retract its initial statement and it seems, for now at least, mods will continue to be available for PC players. Despite this bad press, or maybe even because of it, the game has still managed to see enough sales to reach the top of the charts. You know what they say, there's no such thing as bad press.
The coming week
This week will see the release of several new titles that may challenge "Grand Theft Auto V's" position on the top spot of the charts. The highly anticipated "Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy" is set to be released this Friday (June 30) and will see the beloved PlayStation icon return to the world of gaming after a long absence away.
The trilogy sees the first three Crash games remastered and remade exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
The "Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy" was first announced at last year's E3 and was met with great enthusiasm from gamers. Will "Grand Theft Auto V" be able to fend off the rivalry from everyone's favorite marsupial? Regardless, the game has been hugely successful for both Rockstar and Take-Two and, whilst it may be a while off yet, we look forward to seeing how they try to top it with the next game in the series.
