Upon its release, almost two weeks ago, "F1 2018" raced into first place and made its debut at the very top of the UK game charts. It seems that gamers simply can't get enough of the racing simulator game as, for the second week running, the game is still sitting ahead of the competition in first place, despite fierce rivalry from new releases such as "Pro Evolution Soccer 2019," "Strange Brigade," and the PlayStation 4 edition of the popular PC game "Sunless Sea."

The charts

"F1 2018" remains in the No. 1 spot, while Konami's sports game Pro Evolution Soccer makes its debut in second.

Despite originally being released way back in 2013, Rockstar's hugely popular "Grand Theft Auto V" is in third place. Activision's "Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy" is in fourth, and has no doubt enjoyed bolstered sales thanks to the recent Nintendo Switch release. "Yakuza Kiwama" makes its debut, and brings up the rear, in fifth. The top ten also includes other popular games such as "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" in sixth, the incredibly well received "God of War" in eighth, and EA's "FIFA 18" in tenth.

The road to success

"F1 2018," no doubt, owes its strong sales to the fact that the game has been well received by many critics and has been awarded high scores for its intense racing action, sense of speed, impressive AI, a variety of tracks, and car setup options.

The game also happened to release during a period that is generally lacking in major game releases, meaning more gamers have money to spare on a new title. It's also worth noting that it has been some time since a racing game has been released, with "The Crew 2" being released over two months earlier. No doubt many gamers were eager for a new racing game to sink their teeth into.

A successful future?

No doubt "F1 2018" will continue to enjoy strong sales, but it seems unlikely it will be able to remain on top of the charts for a third week running. This week will see the release of the highly anticipated PS4 exclusive "Spider-Man," which many gamers have been eagerly awaiting all year. "F1 2018" will need to continue to receive strong sales if it's to compete with the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

The next major racing game set to be released is the Microsoft exclusive "Forza Horizon 4," which is set to launch on the Xbox One and Windows 10 on October 2. Interest in "Fora Horizon 4" is certainly high, but only time will tell which game petrol heads prefer to play.
