What is the Keto Diet? The Keto diet, or Ketogenic Diet, is a popular diet that many have had great success with. The truth is that it's not a new diet at all. Many people have been eating the meals this lifestyle includes since the 1920s. It was a way of life for a long time, before candies and heavy carbohydrates became what people crave. Sweets used to be very expensive, and many people didn't eat foods that were high in sugars, until the holidays.

During Christmas, fruit and candy baskets were big gifts, and that was typically the only time of the year people ate sugary foods. The rest of the time people ate home cooked meals, and many people grew their own food. There were no fast food restaurants to stop at to get a quick meal.

What do people eat on the keto diet?

The Keto Diet is a low carb, medium protein, and high saturated fat diet. Now when many hear this, they may think,”how can that be?" Our bodies need healthy fats to feed our cells.

Healthy fats include olive oil, almond oil, coconut oil, almonds and grass-fed butter. Eating fats like the ones I mentioned, feed our cells and in turn give us energy.

If you are not eating foods that are high in glucose or sugar, our bodies have no choice but to start burning the dietary fats Your body will start to burn the excess fat that it is not using. That is how many start shedding the pounds.

Protein is also important and some good sources of protein, if you're considering this diet, would include: Grass-fed beef, lamb, veal, cage-free eggs. Grass-fed beef is said to be best.

Carbohydrates included in this diet include non-starchy vegetables such as corn. Green leafy vegetables, fresh herbs, cucumbers, and beans are all good examples of good carbs that you can eat and should eat.

Fruits are allowed on the diet. In my research, I have found that the only fruits others on this diet eat are berries such as strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries.

Remember to plenty of water as well.

What is the keto flu?

When people start to cut a lot of the sugars out of their diets, they may start to feel withdraws. This is called the Keto Flu. The body is starting to use fats instead of sugar as its fuel source, and the result is the Keto Flu. symptoms may include dizziness, poor focus and concentration, nausea, soreness in your muscles, and insomnia.

What can you do to help with these symptoms? Drink plenty of water for one? Keep yourself hydrated and take a teaspoon of salt to help retain the water in your system. Drink bone broth to replenish your electrolytes and get plenty of sleep.
