If you’re wondering if this Dessert is as obvious as it sounds then I can assure you it is! Ice Cream Cake is the creamy goodness that is ice cream in the shape of a cake with light, fluffy layers of sponge-cake or any kind of cake in between; it seems to be a very popular dessert amongst the modern-day foodies. Like Romeo and Juliet and Cleopatra and Mark Anthony, ice cream and cake will forever go down in food-history as one of the most romantic food pairings. You are pretty spot on with that thought! Here’s how we do it:


  • 1 package of chocolate cake mix or sponge-Cake Mix
  • 1 gallon of ice-cream (Choose a flavor or flavors of your choice)

Method of preparation

  • Prepare the cake mix according to the directions on the box. A circular cake pan is preferred for baking. However, the choice is yours when it comes to the shape of your special treat.
  • Once the cake/cakes begin to pull away from the sides of the cake pan/pans, removes them from the oven and cool on a cooling rack if available.
  • Once the cakes are cool, cut them horizontally. You should be able to get four layers in total if you’ve baked two cakes; two layers per cake baked. Set the first layer on a flat plate. Layer on an ice cream flavor of your choice on top of this cake layer as you would with frosting. Ensure that the ice-cream is frozen. You will have to work quickly to ensure that you do not make a mess.
  • Continue piling on the cake layers and spreading thick layers of the cold, frosty goodness in between these cake layers. Once all the cake layers are on, begin spreading the remaining on the top of the cake and at the sides.
  • Decorate your masterpiece as you wish. A multitude of sprinkles, cookies, hard candy, nuts or even dried fruit can be wedged into the soft layers of ice cream.
  • Once you are done decorating your cake, chill it for at least 2 hours or overnight if you have the time.

This recipe yields approximately 18 servings and is ready to eat in only three hours; this includes preparation time and cooking time.

With just two ingredients at the minimum, you can create the cake of your childish fantasies. Change up the shapes, flavors or decorations to suit your fancy.
