Love has numerous health benefits. It makes you feel energetic, focused, excited, and motivated. It has a positive impact on both physical and emotional health. According to Pat Mumby, a professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences, Loyola University Chicago, Falling In Love causes the body to release chemicals that trigger exciting physical reactions.
In fact, love hits the brain like cocaine does. In biology, love is all about chemicals.
Although we have heard poets, novelists, and singers describe love in numerous ways, such as feelings that develop when a person is struck by cupid’s arrow, a feeling that develops after taking a magical potion, a mysterious feeling, and many more. Experts explain that love is linked to physiology.
How it works
This feeling is directly linked to the Heart And Brain. Sometimes it makes the heartbeat and race. According to Dr. Reginald Ho, a professor of medicine and cardiac electrophysiologist, the heartbeat occurs as a result of the rapid flow of the hormone known as adrenaline in the blood.
Actually, the brain does the first job by sending signals to the adrenal gland. This results in the secretion of hormones such as epinephrine, adrenaline, and norepinephrine.
In fact, It activates the opioid system, a part of the brain which is consistently associated with emotions. Also, the effect of exercise on the heart and brain is similar to that of love in the heart and brain although their health benefits may have some slight differences.
Negative effects love
Irrespective of the fact that we have been adequately informed of the positive effects of love to the heart and brain, it is also important to know that it has some negative effects on physical and emotional health, especially on people who have existing heart problems and stress issues.
Also, it can result in illnesses such as high blood pressure, ulcers, anxiety, migraine, panic, hopelessness, depression, loneliness, isolation, and sleep disorders.
The feeling of love could be deadly. This is because it causes the heart rate to increase thereby resulting in the excessive use of oxygen which could be dangerous for aged persons with atherosclerosis or a history of heart attack. Also, some of the chemicals released when a person is in love could induce stress and obsession. These chemicals and hormones that are released can cause some people to behave in much the same way as someone addicted to drugs.
