According to the Daily Mail, Prince Harry has refused to sign a prenup before he marries Meghan Markle. The 33-year-old prince is confident that his marriage will last and has decided that there is no need for him to sign a prenuptial agreement.
The couple is so much in love that Prince Harry knows Meghan is not marrying him for his money. After all, she had a successful acting career that she worked hard to get and then she gave it up to marry him. The Daily Mail also stated that there never was a question about whether to sign a prenup or not.
No prenups
Buckingham Palace refuses to comment on the prenup situation. If this information is correct, Prince Harry would be following in his brother's footsteps, because Prince William did not sign a prenup before he married Kate Middleton in 2011 for the same reason. Harry's parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, reportedly didn't sign one either. Their marriage did end in divorce. Princess Diana had to fight hard to win a settlement from Prince Charles in 1996 because there was no prenup.
Princess Diana had been divorced from Prince Charles for three years before they settled. She received a lump sum of $22.5 million instead of monthly alimony checks. At the time, London newspapers reported that she also received another $600,000 a year.
The couple's worth
Prince Harry is worth an estimated $54 million. He inherited $18 million after the death of his mother and he has another $36 million in assets. Meghan has a reported fortune of $7.2 million.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will get married at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle on May 19, 2018. The countdown to the wedding has already begun.
Just six days before the couple is set to tie the knot, Lifetime is airing a movie about their romance leading up to their engagement and marriage. "Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance" will air on May 13.
Prenuptial agreements
A lot of celebrities sign a prenuptial agreement before marriage. It has become so common in Hollywood that couples consider a prenup part of the marriage package.
They say it will help solve a lot of problems down the road if the couple gets a divorce and assets have to be divided. Celebrities favor prenups, especially if one of the partners brings a lot more to the marriage. In some states, a division of property is made of things acquired only during the marriage. In some other states, it might include all assets before and during the marriage.
