The annual boston marathon is just two weeks away and in honor of the upcoming event, athletic shoe brand Saucony announced its rather surprising collaboration with Dunkin' Donuts. Saucony, which was founded in Massachusetts 120 years ago, celebrated its anniversary by teaming up with another iconic brand, this time in the food industry. Dunkin' Donuts, which was originally founded in Quincy, Massachusetts, was the inspiration behind the new athletic shoe collaboration. The team-up was serendipitous, as both brands were homegrown in Massachusetts.

'America runs on Dunkin'

The Saucony and Dunkin' Donuts partnership is even more meaningful because of Dunkin's best-known slogan, "America runs on Dunkin'." According to CBS Philly, This year, Boston Marathon runners can literally run on Dunkin' with the new Saucony X Dunkin’ Kinvara 9 that was released this week.

The brand released only 2,000 pairs of the limited edition running sneaker, which immediately sold out. Dunkin’ Brands director of strategic partnerships Justin Unger told AdWeek that the donuts and coffee brand has been "keeping America running on Dunkin’ for decades, and we’re thrilled to partner with Saucony to literally keep Bostonians running this marathon season."

Run a mile in these shoes

The Saucony X Dunkin’ Kinvara 9 goes for $110 and is currently out of stock on Saucony's website, so expect some Boston Marathon runners sporting this amazing donut-inspired running sneaker. It features a Dunkin' Donuts pink and orange gradient sole and white minimalist upper design with the word BOSTON etched on the side.

At the back of the shoe is the food brand's iconic pink donut with the words "America runs on Dunkin'" written on the spine. There's also great detail on the side of the shoe featuring coffee beans and the trademark orange and pink "DD" on the shoe's tongue, as well as some purple and orange sprinkles. According to Saucony's website, the shoe features a new EVERUN topsole for "enhanced energy return and continuous cushioning throughout the run." Saucony CMO Amanda Reiss explained in a statement that the show "celebrates the joy, determination and delicious obsession of runners everywhere with a sense of playfulness that’s true to the heart and soul" of both Saucony and Dunkin' Donuts.
