After nearly a year of speculation by LEGO fans, the world's largest toy company finally announced what we were all expecting. On October 1st, you will be able to purchase a massive Ultimate Collector's Series Lego set of the iconic Millennium Falcon from Star Wars.
Lego previously released a very similar set nearly ten years ago, and since then it has become one of the most popular Lego sets on the secondary market. It often sold for $5000 on Ebay. The new set is welcome news for those that want a minifigure scale Millennium Falcon, because this set will retail for $800 USD.
Set based on 'Force Awakens' and 'Empire Strikes Back'
This Lego set will be based on both "The Force Awakens" and "The Empire Strikes Back." Fans can switch out the radar dish from the square one from the new trilogy or the round one from the classic trilogy. The set will come with multiple minifigures including Rey, Finn, Young Han Solo, Old Han Solo, C-3PO and Princess Leia. Additional figures include two buildable Porgs and a buildable Mynok.
So what has the initial reaction been to the set? So far there is a lot of anticipation for the set. The hype is huge and fans will be happy they can have a set this large. The price tag might seem like it's a little high, but it actually a decent price when you take into account the size and number of pieces.
The only real complaints have been about the minifigures. If a few more figures were included it would have been a much better deal. Many fans wanted to have a Lego minifigure of Luke Skywalker from "The Last Jedi" Included.
UCS sets are big sellers for Lego
Despite the recent news that Lego will be laying off employees after disappointing sales over the past year, one thing is for certain.
The UCS Star Wars sets are big sellers. The Lego Death Star playset is one of the best selling Lego sets of all time despite currently having a huge $500 price tag. It was so popular that it was rereleased after the original had been on the market for eight years.
The Sandcrawler and Slave 1 were also very popular sets. There is already speculation about what the next set might be.
The options are endless.
VIP members get special deals
If you are a Lego VIP member, you will be able to buy the UCS Millennium Falcon early. It will go on sale for VIP members in mid September. The first people to purchase the set will also receive a limited edition jet black VIP membership card which will give members access to special Lego deals in 2018.
